Three Methods to Pause AutoTrading on Your MetaTrader 5 Expert Advisor

Autotrading can be a great way to take your strategy and scale it to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

However, there are times where you need to turn it off.

In this article, I’ll show you three easy ways to turn off autotrading on your MetaTrader 5 so that your Expert Advisor stops placing trades on your behalf.

A Quick Note

All the methods below assume that you are directly connected to your MetaTrader 5 terminal. If you are using a VPS, then follow this article to connect to it.

Method 1: Press Stop

The first option is to change the ‘Algo Trading’ button on your terminal to ‘Stop’. The GIF below shows me turning the algo trading off and on.

Method 2: Removing The Expert Advisor

Sometimes you might want to be more targeted in your approach, removing a specific EA, rather than a blanket STOP TRADING approach.

In this instance, you can remove the EA that needs to go.

Method 3: Turning Off Everything

Sometimes you might want to simply turn off everything. Maybe it’s just not your day.

In this instance, you simply need to turn off your terminal.
